Vancouver, BC/Unceded Territories of the Squamish (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh), Tsleil-Waututh (səlilwətaɬ), and Musqueam (xʷməθkʷəy̓əm) First Nations - Today, the Alliance of BC Students welcomed the announcement that the Ministry of Finance has initiated an investigation into the Kwantlen Student Association (KSA) under the a special provision of the Societies Act.
”All BC students deserve transparency and accountability from their student unions,” said Kevin Root, Chairperson of the ABCS. “Any serious allegations of misconduct or misuse of student funds raise significant questions, and students deserve answers.”
BC student societies are regulated by the Societies Act and are accountable to their members and the public through the Act.
BC students expect their student societies to demonstrate high standards of ethical conduct, fiscal responsibility, good governance, transparency, and accountability. Upholding these high standards is the norm, and is essential to maintaining the trust that students place in their elected representatives.
