Manpreet is a 2nd year student in the Associate's Degree in Psychology program at Capilano University, pursuing veterinary medicine, and an international student from Punjab, India, having moved to Canada in 2022. She previously served on the ABCS Board of Directors and as Vice-President Student Affairs at the Capilano Students’ Union. She currently serves as Vice-President External at the Capilano Students’ Union and as a Senator at Capilano University.
Being an army child and having moved all over India provided Manpreet opportunities to live in a multicultural environment. She brings to the role lived experience as an international student, navigating being the first in her family to move countries, and is very grateful to be here and learning more about her current residence. After her year as Vice-President Student Affairs, Manpreet learned how much could be done through advocacy and really wanted to commit more to that portfolio.
Manpreet is hoping to advocate so that post-secondary education in Canada is more accessible to international students, and strongly believes that their value should not be limited to just economic contributions. Her work engaging with students and a focus on the student experience within her own university highlighted many of the systemic issues and lacking regulations amongst post-secondary institutions.
