Board of Directors

In between general meetings, the Alliance is governed by a board of directors. The board consists of one member elected or appointed by each member student society; the individual member student society is responsible for the method of selection. Member student societies also select alternates, to act as a proxy for their selected board member when absent.

The board is responsible for:

  • the management of the business, revenue, and affairs of the Alliance;
  • setting policy positions in-between the members’ general meetings;
  • overseeing the financials of the Alliance; and
  • other duties assigned at general meetings or in the bylaws.
Blake Edwards, designated by the UBC Students’ Union Okanagan

Having received his bachelor of arts degree in history and political science at UBC Okanagan, Blake currently serves as the president of the UBC Students’ Union Okanagan. Blake’s studies have focused on environmental history, gender, and politics. He represents members of the UBCSUO on a number of advisory committees, the Positive Space committee, and the sexual assault prevention team.

Blake brings to the Alliance board a wealth of experience working with on-campus departments and community organizations, and has been recognized locally and provincially for his commnunity service work and student advocacy. Originally from Castlegar, Blake has lived in Kelowna for the last 5 years.

Natasha Lopes, designated by the Kwantlen Student Association
Screen-Shot-2015-03-07-at-3.35.06-PM Natasha Lopes is the vice-president student life at the Kwantlen Student Association, bringing a vibrant sense of community to Kwantlen Polytechnic University for the 2016-2017 elected term. Natasha is pursuing a bachelor of arts in political science, with a minor in history. Natasha is also the women’s constituency representative at the Kwantlen Student Association, organizing with Women Organizing Opportunities for Women.

Natasha has also memorized all of the Lord of the Rings movies.

Michelle Gervais, designated by the Capilano Students’ Union
Michelle is studying her diploma in business administration at Capilano University, while serving as a member of the university’s board of governors and senate. Michelle serves concurrently on the board of directors of the Capilano Students’ Union.
Nicholas McGregor, designated by the Graduate Student Society (UBC Vancouver)
Nick is currently serving as the vice-president external relations for the Graduate Student Society of UBC Vancouver, where he is also a fourth-year chemistry PhD candidate. As both a student and student representative, he seeks to embody the creativity, ingenuity, and drive that students across Canada possess. In previous years, he has served in student governments in a variety of elected positions, including as president. He also currently serves as a director of the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations. He has a passion for learning, student rights, and student quality of life.

Outside of school, Nick is an avid skier, an enthusiastic scuba diver, and a long-time baseball umpire. He is always looking for new experiences, and is anticipating a great year ahead with the Alliance of BC Students strengthening the student voice in Canada.

Rishabh Sharma, designated by the Langara Students’ Union
Rishabh serves as the treasurer at the Langara Students’ Union, providing board leadership in the planning and monitoring of the student society’s finances.
